On August 17, 2023, the Iran 1400 Project interviewed Dr. Camron Michael Amin about the effects, obstacles, goals, and potential transformations of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. Dr. Amin addressed a diverse array of subjects concerning the movement, including the increased recognition of women’s issues. He also discussed dissent within the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and, among other issues, explored the influence of the 2009 protests on citizens’ loyalty to the state, the expatriate component to political change in Iran, and strategies for reducing the barriers to more effective political transformation.

Camron Michael Amin is a Professor of Middle East and Iranian Diaspora Studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He currently serves as the Coordinator of the Middle East Studies Certificate Program, Principal Investigator for the Michigan Iranian American Oral History Project and the Past President of the Association for Iranian Studies (2021).
